ALAMO PLAZA
(From right to left) 1) The Alamo (under flag), 2) the old Medical Arts Building (Ralph Cameron, architect, 1926) which is now the Emily Morgan hotel (named after Texas' most famous prostitute) and the hotel for the STILL BREATHING crew, 3) The Post Office and 4) The Cenotaph monument to the Alamo defenders (Pompeo Coppini, sculptor). Much of the plaza was the courtyard of the original mission and during the battle, the site of the most intense fighting. The Alamo later became a US Army quartermaster depot and made the plaza one of the busiest spots in the city. In the mid-1800's, the plaza is reported to have been the site of the famous demonstration of a new invention called "barbed wire" -- something that would change the landscape of the American West forever.
