THE SUNKEN GARDENS

These water gardens were called "The Japanese Sunken Gardens" until the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor, when they were renamed "Chinese." Complete with waterfalls, the gardens were built in an old cement quarry in 1917. There was a tea house, of course, and later in the 50's, a sky-ride over the top of it all. The "Japanese Gardens" name was restored in the late 1980's.
